Background: Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is a common endocrine disorder among infertile women and is associated with increased body mass index (BMI) and elevated serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels. However, the relationship between BMI and AMH varies depending on the presence of PCOD.
Objective: To assess the association between BMI and AMH in infertile women with and without PCOD.
Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 120 infertile women aged 20-35 years, divided into two groups: PCOD (n=60) and non-PCOD (n=60). BMI and serum AMH levels were measured, and statistical correlations were analyzed.
Results: Women with PCOD had significantly higher AMH (5.4±2.3 ng/mL) than those without PCOD (2.1±1.2 ng/mL, p<0.001). A moderate positive correlation was observed between BMI and AMH in the PCOD group (r=0.38, p=0.003), while a weak inverse relationship was noted in the non-PCOD group (r=−0.21, p=0.09).
Conclusion: AMH is elevated in PCOD and correlates positively with BMI. In non-PCOD infertile women, the association is weak and negative. These patterns emphasize the importance of interpreting AMH in the context of BMI and PCOD status.
